Mistakes Will Be Made

The tea was still hot

when the lecture was done

I listened to the words

but understood none

Was it adolescence that distracted me

or the heat from the fire?

Perhaps it was the temperament—the language

or my plain lack of desire

With the tea finished, I left

It was my life, not theirs

Decisions, I will make

and should I fail, who cares?
